Privacy policy

How Constitution Education Fund Australia collects, uses and protects your personal information.

Constitution Education Fund Australia (CEFA) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can access or correct it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

In this policy, "CEFA", "we" and "us" mean the trustee for The Constitution Education Fund (ABN 76 750 439 829).

What we collect

We only collect personal information we need for our work. Depending on how you deal with us, this may include:

  • Donations: your name, email address, postal address, the amount and date of your gift, and which program you chose to support.
  • Contacting us or subscribing to updates: your name, email address and anything you choose to tell us.
  • The Governor-General's Prize: entrants' names, contact details, university and course, and their essays.
  • Schools and programs: the name and contact details of teachers and organisations who ask for our support or take part in our programs.

We do not collect sensitive information such as health information, and we ask that you do not send it to us.

Payments

Online donations are processed by PayPal. Your card or bank details are entered on PayPal's website and are never seen or stored by CEFA. PayPal shares your name, email address, postal address and donation details with us so we can thank you and issue receipts. PayPal handles your information under its own privacy policy.

If you donate by bank transfer, we receive the details your bank provides, such as your name and payment reference. Please do not send card details to us by email or fax.

Our website

Our website does not use cookies, advertising trackers or analytics, and it has no forms that store your information. Like most websites, our hosting provider may keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses and browser types, to keep the site secure and running.

Our website uses fonts provided by Google Fonts. When you visit, your browser connects to Google's servers to load them, which shares your IP address with Google.

Our website links to other websites, including PayPal, the Australian Constitution Centre and Civics Australia. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other websites.

How we use your information

  • To process donations, issue tax-deductible receipts and thank our supporters
  • To run our programs, including the Governor-General's Prize
  • To respond to your enquiries
  • To send you news about our work, if you have asked us to. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • To meet our legal, tax and reporting obligations

Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only with:

  • service providers who help us operate, such as PayPal, our email and website hosting providers, and our accountants, and only as needed for those services
  • judges of the Governor-General's Prize, who receive entrants' essays for judging
  • government agencies or others where the law requires or permits it

Some of these providers, including PayPal and Google, may store information outside Australia.

Keeping your information secure

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, and we destroy or de-identify it when we no longer need it.

Accessing or correcting your information

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by contacting us. We will respond within a reasonable time.
